ExpressVPN is the best VPN out there, and very few other VPN providers get anywhere close to it. However, you may still want to try the service out before committing to it, especially when signing up for a year is the way to get the most value out of it. In this article, we’re going to talk a little about getting an ExpressVPN free trial.

Let’s usher the elephant out of the room first, though: despite ExpressVPN advertising a “risk-free VPN trial,” the actual offer is a 30-day money-back guarantee. This means you will need to buy a subscription and request a refund from customer support before the 30 days are over.

You need to pay up front, though, so this is a far cry from a trial. However, there are benefits to this policy, as it offers full access to the VPN service and no data limits or bandwidth caps. On top of that, in the years of continually updating our ExpressVPN review, we’ve never had an issue with getting our money back, so you can rest assured in that regard.

How to Get an ExpressVPN Free Trial

To start your free trial, you need to purchase a plan and pay for it as normal. You can access this through one of the “get ExpressVPN” buttons on the homepage of the website. However, you will need an email address and credit card that haven’t been used for ExpressVPN before.

Most payment options are available, including PayPal and bitcoin. After you have chosen the plan you want and entered your payment details, you can create an account.

Payment

First, you will need a password for your account. ExpressVPN provides a random password, but with only eight characters, you may want to use a separate password generator. After creating a secure password for your account, you will receive an activation code, which you can use to install the VPN on any device.

Once you have your activation code, you can follow the ExpressVPN download link. By default, your current device will be selected. There are many other options, though, including downloads for Windows, macOS, Apple TV or Amazon Fire Stick. There are also apps for iOS and Android mobile devices, and it’s worth noting that ExpressVPN holds the top spot in our best VPN for Android article.

The installer will guide you through using ExpressVPN on your device. You will have full access to all of the available servers with no limits in place. However, just be sure to request a refund before the end of the 30 days.

Getting the ExpressVPN 30-Day Free Trial

  1. Click the “get ExpressVPN” button on the homepage
  2. Choose a plan and enter your payment information
  3. Choose a password
  4. Download the VPN using your activation code
  5. Follow the installation instructions

Canceling ExpressVPN

At any point during the first 30 days after purchasing your plan, you can cancel ExpressVPN and get a full refund. You will be able to use it until you get your money back, which should be within seven working days of making the request.

The first step to getting your refund is to contact customer support. You can normally use the 24/7 live chat, but when we went to ask for a refund, the email service was the only option. We got a reply on the same day that confirmed the refund process had begun and also asked us why we wanted to cancel the plan.

This is all you need to do to cancel your purchase, but manually stopping your recurring payments will prevent accidentally buying another month. You can manage your subscription by logging into ExpressVPN’s website. Here you can choose “turn off automatic renewal,” and it will  confirm that you won’t pay for the next period.

Final Thoughts

ExpressVPN is one of our favorite VPNs for many good reasons, including its excellent support. We were able to get our money back quickly, and we didn’t need to fight for it. Even though the VPN doesn’t offer limited free trials — such as the one provided by the cheaper VPN option CyberGhost (find out how to use the CyberGhost free trial)– the money-back guarantee is one of the best available.

Similarly, NordVPN will give you a refund within the first 30 days (find out how to get a NordVPN refund). There’s no NordVPN free trial, though. In our NordVPN review, we go into detail about what it has to offer. You can also read our ExpressVPN vs NordVPN showdown for a quick comparison between the two services.

FAQ

  • Does ExpressVPN Have a Free Trial?

It doesn’t provide a free trial. However, the money-back guarantee is good enough so that you can use the VPN risk free to test if it is the right one for you.

  • How Do I Reset My ExpressVPN Trial?

ExpressVPN uses your email and payment information to stop you from reusing the trial period. To bypass this, you need a new email and credit card every time you want to have 30 more days of free VPN usage.
